CG Lighter - Cinematics

As a CG Lighter, you will work with the Lead Lighter to help develop the overall lighting, mood and atmosphere for all production work, contributing to the final finish while developing your own eye for quality. Tasks will include lighting set up, working with existing shaders, and additional lighting through composition for environments, hard surface and organic assets.

You will have the opportunity to work with a highly experienced team, taking direction on all aspects of your work, and applying the direction provided effectively and efficiently.

The role will focus primarily on lighting, shading, & rendering as the core responsibilities. Additional skills exhibited in general compositing will also be leveraged in the successful candidate.


This role will be based primarily in the Westby studio.


·         Assist Lighting team with a variety of lighting and shading tasks.

·         Provide support for lighting set up in 3D environments (within the 3D package) according to the art direction.

·         Create good quality renders for use in compositing.

·         Help break down shots into passes for various elements (reflection, refraction, global illumination etc).

·         Assist in editing existing or creating basic shaders for various materials.

·         Provide additional support on compositing additional lighting and associated effects.

·         Follow direction provided correctly and efficiently from the Lead Lighter

·         Proactively update production and directors on progress, updates and potential obstacles.

·         Exhibit a voracious appetite for understanding the current CG environment, and learning new techniques both from the team and personal resources to keep up to date with skills.

·         Build rapport with the team and offer assistance where possible.

·         Good ability to communicate effectively with team members and leads.

·         Utilise strong skills in problem solving, attention to detail and final quality.


·         Good knowledge of either 3D Studio Max (ideally) or Maya fundamentals

·         Good knowledge of Nuke.

·         Good knowledge of Vray, Arnold or similar rendering package.


·         A strong portfolio is a must, that shows multiple examples of quality CG Lighting.

·         Good eye for final image creation, ability to create mood and atmosphere.

·         Excellent understanding for how to create materials that behave realistically under a variety of lighting conditions.

·         Exhibit good organisational skills.

·         Be motivated, self-disciplined.

·         Perform well under deadline pressure in a fast paced environment, prioritising different tasks to achieve the project goals.



·         Any professional experience in a CG environment – be it employment or an internship.

·         Knowledge of creating quality skin shaders

·         Knowledge of Mari

·         Artistic skills in tradition fields such as life/location drawing or photography.
